Supplier Spotlight: AAkron Line
Since 1967, AAkron has been a leader in the promotional product industry. The second-generation family owned and operated business strives to invest their time and resources in a variety of initiatives that benefit those in need and decrease their environmental impact.
In 2000, the company partnered with NAEIR, a program that empowers generosity, by donating much needed products to churches, non-profits and schools in the US. Since the partnership, the company has donated over seven million dollars worth of products to the organization. AAkron also created the GiveBack One for One program over four years ago. Through this program, if a distributor purchases one of several select products, AAkron donates a like product to NAEIR for every item purchased.
Last year the company educated themselves on the harmful effects of plastic bags, which can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, and decided to make a change. AAkron switched over to biodegradable poly bags for packaging, which take between six months and one year to break down. So far, AAkron has switched 75% of their bags to the biodegradable material and are aiming for 100% by the end of this year. The company has also been working with vendors who manufacture corrugated boxes made entirely of post-consumer waste for several years now, and will continue to do so.
On top of their give back programs and eco-friendly initiatives, AAkron also launched an antimicrobial line in an effort to combat COVID-19. The antimicrobial additives in the products help prevent the growth and spread of bacteria, neutralizing over 99% of active bacteria. The powerful, invisible additive does not wear off and remains effective for the life of the product, making this product capability extremely popular during the ongoing pandemic.
